CitySafe

Wireless audio-visual mass notification system

Developed by Dimonoff in collaboration with Siemens, CitySafe delivers simultaneous audio and visual emergency alerts to anyone within sight or earshot of a beacon, using the streetlight network as its mounting infrastructure.

Features

  • Simultaneous audio and visual alerts, with verbal broadcasts describing the nature of the threat
  • Color-coded lights for accessibility, including for the hearing-impaired
  • Weather and emergency alerts relayed from public safety agencies
  • Mesh-connected redundancy: no dependency on a central server
  • Runs on the same Gateway G3+ and RME nodes as the rest of the lighting network

Use cases

  • Emergency alerts in disaster-prone areas
  • Severe weather notification, including for residents without internet access
  • Street safety, integrated with FEMA, FCC, DHS and National Weather Service alert feeds

A 2021 University of Chicago Crime Lab / NBER randomized trial of NYC public housing lighting found a 36% reduction in nighttime outdoor index crime — the case for adding beacons to an existing streetlight network, not a Dimonoff-specific figure. Source: crimelab.uchicago.edu.
