Dimonoff and the City of Shawinigan received the LSNetwork “Canadian Lighting Technology of the Year” award in 2018. The recognition highlighted their street lighting management and control project, which also integrated sewer-level sensors into the same system, one of the first citywide, streetlight-integrated smart city applications in Canada. The LSNetwork awards celebrate individuals, projects, and organizations advancing energy-efficient outdoor lighting across the country, across three categories: Canadian Outdoor Lighting Project of the Year, Canadian Lighting Technology of the Year, and Canadian LightSaver of the Year.
Geneva Starr of the Canadian Urban Institute said the Shawinigan project “attracted our attention as they have included the control of sewer-level sensors within the same system.” Dimonoff CEO Bernard Têtu said the win shows that “scalability and adaptability of a platform has become essential in the smart cities industry,” pointing to the company’s focus on building systems that can adapt to diverse IoT city assets over time. Shawinigan Mayor Michel Angers noted the city’s long-standing commitment to energy efficiency and its pride in the recognition.
The same awards cycle also recognized Montreal’s Isabelle Lessard, who won the Canadian LightSaver award for leading the modernization of 138,000 street lights to LED using Dimonoff’s SCMS platform, which supports hardware from multiple vendors.
