Elster Solutions, a leader in Smart Grid and Energy Management Solutions, announced a resale agreement to distribute Dimonoff’s wireless lighting control and monitoring systems. Dimonoff, based in Quebec, Canada, specializes in intelligent street lighting technology that lets municipalities significantly cut energy consumption and maintenance costs while improving public safety on streets, roadways, and in parking areas. The controls allow LED output to be adjusted based on ambient brightness and scheduling, and the network can participate in utility demand response programs to help reduce peak electrical loads.
Under the partnership, Elster rebranded the offering Elster Lighting Intelligence (ELI). Each control module includes an integrated electrical meter, creating a natural fit with Elster’s existing metering business, and the combined solution pairs scalable GIS software and management tools with the underlying hardware. Beyond illumination, ELI can support emergency services through 911 location identification, evacuation signaling, pole-tilt alerts, and additional smart city sensors for pollution and parking availability.
“Elster will become a one stop shop for Smart City solutions, with street and area lighting controls as well as smart grid and AMI solutions,” said Mark Fronmuller, President of Elster Solutions. Bernard Têtu, President of Dimonoff, added that “our joint solution enables even more data acquisition of electrical assets and advanced platform for real-time control.”
The technology was already in production use in Mississauga, Ontario, where the city deployed Dimonoff’s system across 50,000 LED street lights. Eric Menezes, the city’s Streetlighting Supervisor, noted that the metering built into each node had been accepted by the local utility as an energy meter for billing purposes.
